Blood Tests

All patients should be advised that before booking to see endocrinologists it is important to have all the correct blood tests so that they can make the most of their appointment. If they want to make sure that they have all the required lab work done, then they can book a GP appointment beforehand. As a general the blood tests needed are:

  • Erectile dysfunction – Serum Testosterone, FBC, LFT, SHBG, Prolactin, FSH/LH, if age >50 PSA

  • Diabetes type 1 - Hba1c, RFT, LFT, Lipid panel, TSH, urine ACR, CGM download

  • Diabetes type 2 - Hba1c, RFT, LFT, Lipid panel, TSH, Urine ACR, CGM download

  • Low libido/ Low testosterone - Serum Testosterone, FBC. LFT, SHBG, Prolactin, FSH/LH, if age >50 PSA

  • Hyperthyroidism - TSH. FT4, FT3, Thyroid Receptor Antibodies, LFT, FBC

  • Uncontrolled blood pressure - RFT, LFT, FBC, Serum renin Aldosterone, Plasma metanephrines (this can be requested later after consultation)
